It is interesting to consider, that interior design is much older than many people realize. It is quite possible actually, that it even existed significantly in prehistoric times.
It is fair to say that art on the walls of caves which were ancient dwelling places, was not only about expression, but also about decoration.
That is indeed interior design! Ancient civilizations decorated the mud huts in which they lived, with tree branches and animal skins.
The ancient Egyptians used painted vases, sculptures and animal skin to decorate their homes.
Although societies are largely globalized, interior design tastes differ vastly from country to country.
This is understandable as interior design differences are influenced by cultural preferences and resource availability.
It’s also interesting to note, how interior design influences people’s psychological state of being. Lighting and color choices are directly associated with this.
The reason why this is so fascinating, is the way it shows how people seek happier frames of minds in ways that do not directly meet the eye.
It is quite understandable, especially in turbulent times of great distress and uncertainty. The manifestation of people’s need to feel peaceful and happy, starts in their immediate surroundings and environment.
It starts in people’s homes and work places. It begins there for the sake of it being extended to all other facets of life.
Welcome! I’m Masha, a passionate advocate for the intersection of mental wellness and design. With a background in criminal justice and criminology, I’ve always been fascinated by the ways our environments shape our thoughts, behaviors, and overall well-being. This curiosity led me to explore how psychological principles can be seamlessly integrated into home design to create spaces that not only look beautiful but also foster mental health and relaxation.
In addition to my studies, I run a small business called OCD (Organize Create Design), where I focus on designing spaces that promote mental awareness and well-being. I believe that our surroundings have a profound impact on our mental state, and through my work, I aim to help others create homes that truly support their emotional and psychological needs.
This blog is a space where I share insights, tips, and research on how to apply psychological theories to home design. Whether you’re looking to create a stress-free environment, enhance your productivity, or simply make your home a sanctuary, you’ll find practical advice and inspiration here.
When I’m not writing or working on design projects, I’m pursuing my master’s degree in criminal justice and criminology at UMKC. My goal is to contribute to policymaking that positively impacts international adoptees and families, drawing from both my personal experiences and academic knowledge.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. I hope you find the content here helpful and inspiring as you work to create a home that nurtures your well-being.
